The Configuration Program Tutorial When you start the Configuration Program, the program displays three windows: A navigation window titled Navigation Window A configuration window containing this tutorial The program logo window Select OK on the program logo window to begin using the configuration program. If you want to use Guided Configuration, refer to the Guided Configuration section below. To use the configuration program: 1. Select Configure from the Navigation window. 2. Select the model you wish to configure from the New configuration submenu. 3. Select Slots or Ports from the Navigation window. Use Slots to select an adapter for each slot from the drop-down menu in the Configuration window. 4. If you want to configure virtual interface types such as dial circuit interfaces, multilink PPP or L2TP interfaces, or channelized ISDN interfaces, expand the Dial Based Interfaces, PPP Based Interfaces, or Channelized ISDN interfaces folders and configure these interface types and other global device-based parameters. 5. Select Interfaces from the Devices folder and configure the interfaces for the device. 6. Select the items in the System folder and configure the parameters in each of those items. 7. Select and configure the items in the SNMP Config folders. 8. Select and configure items in the Protocols and Features folders. You can configure these items in any order. Guided Configuration Introduction There are two ways for the new user to use the help facilities of this configurator tool. · Guided Configuration is for the user who has little experience with network configuration. · Panel helps assist the user who has some experience with network configuration and with the configurator tool. Using Guided Configuration The configuration program begins by showing you two windows: · Navigation window · Configuration window If you select a folder from the Navigation window, Guided Configuration text will appear in the Configuration window. The Guided Configuration text provides configuration information suitable for the network administrator who might need help with network configuration. Press F1 now to copy this text to a Help window. You can then continue to view it as you perform the configuration steps. Do not close the Help window. You can recall the path that you have taken through the Configurator tool by using the up and down buttons in the Help window. If you select a check mark topic from the Navigation window, the corresponding configuration options are displayed in the Configuration window. To display Panel help for these options, press F1 while the topic is selected in the Navigation window. Panel help appears in the Help window. Use the Up button in the Help window to return to the Guided Configuration text. You can then scroll the Guided Configuration text to continue the configuration process. Getting Help Panels You can display help text in the following ways: · To display Guided Configuration text in the Configuration window, select a folder in the Navigation window. · To display help for a check mark topic, select the topic and press F1 from the Navigation window. · To display related information for highlighted text, click on the highlighted text. · To display help for a parameter in the Configuration window, select the parameter and press F1.
